Daphne

Daphne, born Daphne Njie Efundem on 20 September 1989 in Buea, Cameroon, is an award-winning Cameroonian singer, songwriter, actress, and performer. She grew up in the coastal city of Douala, where she developed a passion for music from an early age by singing in her church choir. She later studied Psychology and Law at the University of Buea, balancing her academic pursuits with her growing interest in music. Her rich vocal ability and versatility have made her one of the most recognizable female artists in Central Africa.

Daphne began her professional music career in 2013 and released her debut single, “Rastafari,” in 2014 under Steven’s Music Entertainment. She gained widespread recognition with songs such as “Ndolo” featuring Ben Decca, but it was her 2017 smash hit “Calée” that propelled her to international fame. Her music seamlessly blends Afrobeats, Afropop, R&B, reggae, and makossa, allowing her to appeal to audiences across Africa and the diaspora. Her debut album, Here to Stay (2016), further established her as one of Cameroon’s leading contemporary artists.

Throughout her career, Daphne has collaborated with numerous African stars, including Salatiel, Stanley Enow, Hiro, Koffi Olomidé, and Fanicko. Her impressive catalog of hits includes “Promets-Moi,” “Jusqu’à la Gare,” “My Lover,” “Ne Lâches Pas,” “Doucement,” and “Là-bas.” She has earned several prestigious awards, including Best Female Artist in Central Africa at the AFRIMMA Awards, Song of the Year and Best Female Voice at the Balafon Music Awards, as well as multiple Canal 2’Or awards, cementing her reputation as one of Cameroon’s most accomplished female musicians.

Beyond music, Daphne has expanded her career into acting, notably appearing in the acclaimed Cameroonian film Fisherman’s Diary. She is also admired for using her platform to inspire young people through her artistry, authenticity, and commitment to African culture.
