Jovi

Hip-Hop/Rap

Jovi, born Ndukong Godlove Nfor on 24 October 1983 in Douala, Cameroon, is a renowned Cameroonian rapper, songwriter, record producer, sound engineer, and entrepreneur. Widely known by his producer alias Le Monstre, he is regarded as one of the pioneers of contemporary Cameroonian hip-hop. After earning a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Economics and Business Management from the University of Yaoundé II (Soa), Jovi pursued a career in music, combining technical production skills with lyrical creativity to establish a unique place in Africa’s urban music scene.

Jovi rose to national prominence in 2012 with the release of his breakthrough singles “Don 4 Kwat” and “Pitié,” the latter featuring legendary Congolese musician Tabu Ley Rochereau. That same year, he released his critically acclaimed debut album, H.I.V (Humanity Is Vanishing), which was praised for its innovative fusion of hip-hop with traditional Cameroonian musical influences. His music, performed in English, French, Pidgin English, and Camfranglais, broke linguistic barriers and helped popularize the Mboko sound, a style deeply rooted in Cameroonian culture.

As the founder of New Bell Music, Jovi has played a significant role in developing and promoting emerging Cameroonian artists, including Reniss, Pascal, and Tilla. He has also produced music for international acts, notably co-writing and co-producing Akon’s song “Shine the Light.” His acclaimed albums, including Mboko God (2015), 16 Wives (2017), and God Don Kam (2019), have earned widespread recognition, while Mboko God received a nomination for Best Album at the 2016 Kora Awards. He was also nominated for Best Francophone Artist at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards.

Beyond his success as a performer, Jovi is respected as one of Africa’s most influential independent music producers and entrepreneurs. His commitment to artistic independence, innovative production, and authentic storytelling has inspired a new generation of African musicians. Through New Bell Music and his groundbreaking body of work, Jovi continues to shape the evolution of Cameroonian hip-hop, using his music to address social issues while celebrating African identity and culture.
